Levoit Core 300S air purifier - the smart version of the bestseller
The Core 300S is what the Core 300 should have been. Same body, same filter system, but with a laser air quality sensor, VeSync app control, and Alexa. CADR of 258 m³/h, covers up to 108 m². 38,000+ reviews at 4.6 stars.
Core 300 vs Core 300S
The original Core 300 has no sensor and no app. You pick a fan speed manually and trust that it's doing something. The 300S adds a laser PM2.5 sensor that reads particle levels in real time, auto mode that adjusts fan speed based on those readings, and app control so you can check air quality and schedule from your phone.
The CADR is also higher on this upgraded version: 258 m³/h vs 187 m³/h on the original. That means it cleans a 54 m² room twice an hour instead of once. If you were deciding between the two, the 300S is the better buy.
Laser vs infrared sensor
Levoit make a point of this and they're right to. Most air purifiers at this price use infrared sensors, which are cheaper and less accurate. The 300S uses a laser particle sensor, same type you'll find in units costing twice as much. It picks up smaller particles and responds faster. Our how do air purifiers work article explains the difference between sensor types.
Swappable filters
Four options: original, pet allergy, toxin absorber, and mould. You pick whichever matches your problem. The pet allergy filter is worth knowing about if you have cats or dogs. Replacement filter is the Core 300-RF, around £20-£30, every 6-8 months. Running cost breakdown in our air purifier electricity cost guide.
Noise
24 dB on sleep mode. Display lights turn off automatically. We compared several models for bedroom use in our quiet air purifier for sleeping roundup and the Levoit range does well across the board.
Do you need the 400S instead?
If your room is bigger than about 50-60 m², probably. The 400S has a CADR of 400 m³/h and covers 166 m². For a bedroom or home office, the 300S is plenty. For an open-plan living space, the 400S makes more sense. Our best air purifier for large rooms guide has the room size calculations.
For allergy sufferers, this sits alongside the Philips 3000i and Winix Zero-S in our best air purifier for allergies guide.
