ghd Air hair dryer - the cheaper ghd, but is it worth it?
The ghd Air is ghd's entry-level dryer. 2,100W, ionic, 3m cable, concentrator nozzle. 4.7 stars. It costs less than the Helios but more than a BaByliss or Remington. The question most people have is whether the ghd name justifies the price when cheaper dryers have similar specs on paper.
ghd Air vs ghd Helios
The Helios is 2200W with a brushless motor and the Aeroprecis nozzle. The Air is 2100W with a standard motor. In practice the Helios dries a bit faster and gives more precise airflow control. The Air is heavier. Both have ionic tech and a 3m cable.
If you're choosing between them, the Helios is the better dryer. The Air makes sense if you want the ghd build quality and don't want to pay Helios prices. Our ghd Air review has the detailed comparison. And our ghd Helios vs Dyson Supersonic piece covers the premium end if you're considering going higher.
What you actually get
The dryer and a concentrator nozzle. No diffuser in the box, same as the Helios. You can buy the ghd professional diffuser separately but it's another £20+. If you need a diffuser included, the BaByliss Platinum Diamond or Remington D3199 come with one. Our best hair dryer for curly hair roundup has options where the diffuser comes in the box.
Variable power and temperature controls rather than fixed settings. That gives you more fine-tuning than the stepped 1-2-3 you get on most dryers. Cool shot button for setting styles.
The 3m cable
Both ghd dryers have this and it's genuinely useful. Most budget dryers give you 1.8m, which means you're tethered to the socket. 3m lets you stand in front of a mirror without an extension lead. Small thing, big difference in daily use.
Build quality
This is what the ghd tax gets you. The Air feels well made. The hinge, the buttons, the cable. It doesn't creak or rattle. Whether that's worth the price premium over a Remington at a third of the cost depends on how much that matters to you.
