Dyson Supersonic Nural hair dryer - is the smartest dryer worth the price?
The Dyson Supersonic Nural is the latest version of the Supersonic, now with a network of sensors that automatically adjust temperature and airflow. It costs more than every other dryer on this site combined. The question is whether any hair dryer is worth that much.
What the Nural sensors do
Scalp protect mode keeps air at 55°C near the scalp, measured and adjusted continuously. Attachment learning remembers your preferred settings for each magnetic attachment. Pause detect switches off the heater when you put the dryer down and turns it back on when you pick it up. The capsule illumination changes colour to show your current heat level.
None of this is available on any other dryer at any price. The Shark SpeedStyle Pro has scalp shield but it's a manual toggle, not sensor-driven. Our Dyson Supersonic Nural review has the full breakdown.
Is it actually better at drying hair?
It's fast. The Dyson V9 motor spins at 110,000 rpm and pushes a lot of air. But a ghd Helios at a third of the price also dries quickly. The real difference is heat management. If you worry about heat damage, the automatic temperature regulation means you can't accidentally fry your hair. That matters more for fine, bleached, or colour-treated hair. Our best hair dryer for colour-treated hair guide covers heat protection across price points.
Weight
Light. Lighter than any full-size dryer from Remington, BaByliss, or Panasonic. The balanced design means it doesn't feel front-heavy like conventional dryers. Our best lightweight hair dryer roundup has the numbers.
What you give up by not buying this
Honestly, not that much in terms of clean dry hair. A £20 Remington will dry your hair. A £50 BaByliss will dry it faster with less frizz. The Dyson does it with less heat damage, more intelligence, and a nicer experience. You're paying for engineering and convenience, not fundamentally different results.
Our ghd Helios vs Dyson Supersonic comparison has the mid-vs-premium breakdown. For the full range, our best hair dryer UK roundup covers every price tier.
Who it's for
People who can afford it and want the best available technology in a hair dryer. People with hair damage concerns who want automatic heat protection rather than guessing with manual settings. Gift buyers who want something impressive. It's a brilliant dryer. Whether it's four times better than a ghd is a different question.
