Blueair Blue Max 3250i - the quietest air purifier you can buy?
The Blueair Blue Max 3250i runs at 18 dB on its lowest setting. That is genuinely difficult to hear. Quiet Mark certified. It covers rooms up to 48 m² and uses Blueair's HEPASilent technology, which combines electrostatic charging with mechanical HEPA filtration to move more air with less fan noise.
HEPASilent
Most air purifiers rely purely on pushing air through a dense HEPA filter, which requires a strong fan and makes noise. Blueair's approach electrically charges particles before they hit the filter, so the filter can be less dense and the fan can run slower while still capturing the same amount. The result is less noise at a given CADR.
This is why the 3250i is quieter than purifiers with similar coverage. Our how do air purifiers work article covers how this compares to standard HEPA and ioniser-based systems.
Noise
18 dB on low. For context, the Levoit range is 24 dB on sleep mode, the COWAY Airmega is 20 dB. The Blueair is the quietest in this cluster by some margin. If noise is the reason you haven't bought an air purifier yet, this one removes that excuse.
Our quiet air purifier for sleeping roundup tests bedroom models specifically.
Coverage
48 m² in 30 minutes, 20 m² in 12.5 minutes. That's a bedroom or small living room. Not a large open-plan space. For bigger rooms, the Levoit Core 400S (166 m²) or Winix Zero-S (100 m²) are better options. Our best air purifier for large rooms guide has the room size comparison.
WiFi and app
Connects to WiFi and the Blueair app. Filter monitoring, fan speed control, scheduling. No Alexa or Google Home integration on this model, which is a miss if you use voice assistants. The Levoit range has both.
Filter
Combination HEPA and activated carbon filter. Captures 99.97% of particles down to 0.1 microns. Carbon layer handles light odours from cooking and pets. Replacement every 6 months. Our air purifier electricity cost guide covers running costs across brands.
Who it's for
Light sleepers. People who've been put off air purifiers because of fan noise. At 18 dB, this is practically silent. The trade-off is smaller room coverage compared to Levoit or Philips at similar prices. If your bedroom is under 30 m², it'll be more than enough.
Our best air purifier for bedroom guide has the bedroom-specific comparison. For allergy sufferers, our best air purifier for allergies guide covers filtration quality across all brands.
